Question 1:How to judge different pollution concentrations and what kind of protection level masks should be used?

Answer:First,we must explain the definition of the maximum allowable exposure:the advanced countries in the world generally set the maximum allowable exposure for various harmful dust or toxic particles, which is the MAC/OEL/TLV value commonly used in the industry(MAC=Maximum Admissible Concentration.OEL=Occupational ExposureLimit.TLV=Threshold Limit value). For example, the maximum allowable exposure(OEL value)of aluminum dust is 10mg/m3,then FFP-grade masks with 12 times the OEL value are suitable for working environments where the aluminum dust concentration is less than 120mg/m3.

Therefore, the workplace should entrust a safety and health manager to the actual site to measure the pollution concentration of the operating environment, and then convert it into several times the maximum allowable exposure, and then choose a suitable mask. For the European standard EN149:2001 certified mask,FFP1 It can be used in an environment with a pollution concentration of 5 times the OEL,FFP2 is 12 times OEL,and FFP3 is 50 times OEL.

Question 2:What are the advantages and disadvantages of the cotton masks sold on the market?

Answer:The main advantage of cotton masks is that they can be washed and used repeatedly. The disadvantages are:(1)Saliva will remain in the parts of the inner face of the mask that contact the nose and mouth.(2)The fibers of cotton masks are generally very thick, which cannot effectively filter smaller particles, and most of them have not passed the international safety certification, and the protective effect is not guaranteed.

Question 3:Can non-woven masks be reused after washing?

Answer:As long as the filter mechanism of non-woven masks relies on ultra-fine electrostatic fiber cloth, the fiber diameter is about 1-5 micron,so after the dust is captured by the ultra-fine electrostatic fiber cloth,it is very difficult to be removed by washing, and it will be destroyed by washing.Because of its electrostatic dust collection capability,non-woven masks cannot be cleaned and need to be discarded after use.
